咖啡來一杯,精力更充沛?

Coffee that people drink in the morning is more than just a cup of wake-me-up. It does do something to the body, both good and bad. Some scientists say drinking coffee can protect the liver from alcoholic damage, yet others say it may stop the heart from beating. So now, for a coffee drinker, what more important is the question about how to drink healthily.

Coffee, tea, or.....?

 英語宅急便

A coffee a day keeps doziness away?
咖啡來一杯,精力更充沛

Wayne: Errrr..... I need to make a cup of coffee. Do you need one, babe? (Annie is walking toward Wayne)

Annie: Yes, please. You look so lethargic, honey. When did you go to bed last night?

Wayne: Don't know actually, pretty late though. Or pretty early this morning, I should say. So I really need a cup of wake-me-up. I love the first sip of morning coffee. It always boosts me up, and gets me back onto the track straight away. It's really like a fix.

Annie: Like a fix. What an expression. You remind me of some translation assignments about drinking coffee, which I did a couple of months ago.

Wayne: Sounds pretty like a daily life issue.

Annie: Yeah, they could be very useful for general folks if they were put in plain language.

Wayne: Ha, yeah, those big words are really un-friendly. Especially words of medicine, like the one we saw on a pamphlet talking about heart disease, athero... athero...

Annie: Atherosclerosis.

Wayne: Yeah, yeah, atherosclerosis. Just learning how to say this word can make me get heart attack.

Annie: Don't exaggerate. It's not that hard.

Wayne: Anyway, it's better not to get that wicked illness. (Wayne is handing the coffee to Annie)....Ok, there you go; your cafe latte. So what are those assignments talking about exactly?

Annie: Ta... Well, I remember a paper said a new study has found that coffee can reduce the risk of developing liver cirrhosis, but the scientists are not sure if that is because of caffeine.

Wayne: So, it means that alcohol junkies can just keep going on getting liquored up for as long as they want.

Annie: Are you talking about yourself?

Wayne: No, not me, of course! I can't afford those pretty liquors. You know that.

Annie: Yeah, you bet. Don't forget you've got problems with your heart, though it's just a minor one. Most people know that drinking too much alcohol is gonna cause cardiovascular problems. But you know what. Too much coffee may cause the same problem as well.

Wayne: Really?

Annie: Yeah, that's what I read in one of my translation assignments. Remember that, one time in a delicatessen, after you gulped down two large cups of coffee, you felt your chest tight and noticed your hands trembling for no reason. I think, probably, that's because you didn't sleep well the night before, and then consumed such a large amount of coffee.

Wayne: So the coffee could be the cause. I thought I was just nervous of being with you because at that time, we just met a week ago.

Annie: I don't know if the coffee was to blame. But that's a good try to flatter me.

Wayne: But you don't buy it, do you.

Annie: Well... you never know!
