[COOL Insight｜Issue 14] Tips: How to Set Assignment Groups Weight and Let COOL Calculate Final Grades Automatically

Dear Professors and TAs,

Did you know that you can set up assignment groups directly in NTU COOL?

By aligning these groups with your syllabus — such as assignments, quizzes, midterms, finals, and attendance — you can have COOL automatically calculate students’ term grades for the semester!

With midterms approaching, now is a great time to review your course settings.

This newsletter walks you through a quick 3-step process to set everything up:

①Create Assignment Groups: Go to the “Assignments” page > click “+ Group” > enter the “Group Name” > click “Save”.

For example, groups might include: Assignments, Quizzes, Midterm, Final, Attendance.

②Set Group Weights: Click the three vertical dots next to “+ Assignment” > choose “Assignment Groups Weight” > CHECK “Weight final grade based on assignment groups” > enter the percentage for each group > click “Save”.

For example: Assignments 10%, Quizzes 25%, Midterm 30%, Final 30%, Attendance 5%.

③Check the Grades Page: On the far right of the Gradebook, you’ll see the weighted percentages for each group contributing to the final grade and COOL will calculate final grades automatically.
