President's Words
National Taiwan University is the university with the longest history in Taiwan. Since its founding, there have been more than 180,000 outstanding alumni who graduated from the University and who have become mainstays in their respective areas of specialization. Our extraordinary research achievements have been held in high regard by people from all walks of society. In order to facilitate our alumni and their associates all over the world to better understand the dynamics of their alma mater and to bring back their feedback and support, the university decided to launch the inaugural issue of “NTU Alumni News” (English version) in late April of 2007. By establishing such a communication channel, the university wishes to continuously receive nourishment from her alumni and to grow much more steadily in the global academic arena. From now on, we shall mail copies of the “NTU Alumni News” to our listed alumni periodically, sharing with them the academic honors and intellectual achievements of their alma mater, and hoping that our alumni will walk with us hand in hand to forge ahead to become one of the world's top universities !!
Editor's Note
In this current inaugural issue of “NTU Alumni News, ” we have provided our readers with several major contents. In the “Special Report” column, we choose to introduce the outstanding achievement made by the research team of the Obstetrical Department of NTUH, namely, “A Major Breakthrough in World Medicine! Taiwan University Hospital’s Research Team Has Succeeded in Fostering the Oum outside the Human Body. Research Findings Were Published in Top-notch medical Journal “Human Reproduction”. In the “Research Achievement” column, we select to report Department of Medicine Professor Ann Li Cheng’s new research entitled “Antibiotics Treatment for High-grade Gas tric Lymphoma”, which was made public in a recent announcement ceremony. And for the “Honors” column we want to share with our alumni the National Science Council awards won by many of our faculty, and the distinguished honor of Professors Dr. Chih Kung Lee and Dr. Tsung Tsong Wu both being named ASME Fellows.
