Editor's Note
In this issue of “NTU Alumni News,” we have provided our readers with several major contents. In the “Special Report” column, we introduce the press conference held to announce the achievements of the “Project to Develop World Class University and Top Notch Research Centers”. Besides, NTU team not only has ten essays published in ISSCC, but also wins best paper award this year! In the “Research Achievement” column, we select to report Professor Ji-Wang Chern’s outstanding research on “The virtual Screening of New Drugs” and the prize he just won recently. For the “Honors” column, we want to share great pride with our alumni that Professor Yeong Bin Yang was awarded academician status of the Austrian National Academy of Sciences.

The NTU nano optical storage research team has successfully developed a super-large capacity nano optical disc, with a storage capacity up to 150 GB, which is 30 times the capacity of current DVD discs.

Research Achiements

Congratulations to Professor Dr. Yeong Bin Yang on His Becoming the First Taiwanese Scholar to be Admitted into the Austrian National Academy of Sciences !

Professor Yeong Bin Yang was awarded academician status of the Austrian National Academy of Sciences on May 23rd in Vienna. He was the first Taiwanese scholar to win such a special honor, having passed the resolution of the Senate of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. The 2nd “Yung Hsin Group Tien Te Lee Medicinal Technology Award” held its presentation ceremony on May 31st.
